Feelin' a little Yurty

Chris and I spent a few days backcountry skiing in Wyoming with Uncle Steve and Aunt Karen and a couple of friends of theirs, Steve and Sean. It was a great group with lots of good snow, great skiing, and beautiful scenery.

Here we are starting out. Check out the size of our packs. Chris and I really have to figure out how to drop some weight.

A contstant task while yurting is to get snow to melt for water.

Check out this view. In the background are the Tetons.

Sunny California here we come!

Congratulations, Chris, on getting a spot in the Kaiser Permanente Fontana California Sports Medicine Fellowship. (a little late)

There is a bit of a story that accompanies the decision to take a hiatus to California. Chris' original plan following residency was to get one more year of training specializing in Sports Medicine. At the time hings were complicated and he decided to stay here and marry me. Good decision in my mind... However, after a couple of years of doing straight family practice Chris realized that his passion for the sports medicine world was still there. We went through the application and interview process and are lucky to be going to Fontana California for a year while Chris makes this great career move. Kaiser Permanente is a much larger version of Intermountain Healthcare and the program Chris will be attending in based out of a Kaiser Permanente hospital.

Where is Fontana, you ask?... Fontana is one hour inland from L.A., Long Beach, and Santa Monica near the San Bernadino area. We are about a half an hour from Big Bear Mountain Ski Resort and just over an hour from Disneyland. (So if anyone is going to Disneyland anytime from June 2010 to June 2011 let me know and we will meet you there. I will even go on the tea cups with your kids).

Some interesting tidbits of Fontana history:
-Some famous people that have lived or are natives of Fontana include Al Capone, who lived in Fontana, and whose house still stands and Bill Faberbakke who does the voice of SpongeBob Square Pants.

-The steel mill scene in Terminator 2 was filmed in an old Fontana steel mill.

-The Hells Angels motorcycle club was founded in Fontana in 1948. The founding charter is known as the Berdoo Charter, in reference to the slang name for San Bernardino County

-Pigmy Love Circus has a song called Drug run to Fontana on the album The Power of Beef.

-The city motto is "City of Action"

- Fontana is home to the World's fastest half marathon course (June 5, 2010 if you're interested).

-Fontana is home to a new NASCAR raceway. Yee haw!

We are very excited for this next move. I have never been outside of Utah so I look forward to getting a taste of another state. Chris will have many opportunities following this specialization and will be able to do more with what he loves.

So...surf's up!
